A meeting with active bodies of the region was held in Samarkand with the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The heads of ministries and industries, deputies of the local Kengash (Council), representatives of the elderly and the youth attended the event.
The President noted that the big changes are taking place in the Samarkand Region, the worldview is changing, and the activeness of citizens is growing.
«I always miss Samarkand. I have worked in many places, but the experience I have gained in this region always helps me. Then our capabilities were limited. Therefore, every time I come to Samarkand, I ask myself: was it possible at that time to create opportunities, such as today? Was it possible to build a modern complex in honor of our ancestor Imam Bukhariy? We worked with enormous pain in our hearts waiting for it to happen. Now the times have changed, people no longer need to live like yesterday. The most important thing is that the heads of the executive authorities in the local level should work in accordance with today’s energetic, intensive time», - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President noted that now the first priority is to make the future of Samarkand better and expand the opportunities for young people.
- 2020 was not easy, even the economies of the leading powers faced great challenges. This year, if we redouble our efforts, act with an eye to tomorrow, we will be able to implement the set plans. Nevertheless, if we do not act, expecting someone to do it for us, we will never achieve the result, - the President has said.
It was emphasized that this year the 30th anniversary of the independence of our Motherland should form a clear vision of the development of the Samarkand Region.
The President has outlined five areas that will allow to use the untapped potential of the region. These are the industry, transport logistics, large greenhouses of an industrial type, the service sector and tourism. The measures to be taken in these sectors are outlined, responsible persons are identified.
It was noted that in 2021-2022, the 1279 investment projects for 30 trillion 415 billion Uzbek soums in the industry, services and agriculture are planned in the Samarkand Region. In particular, 1,184 regional projects for 12 trillion Uzbek soums and 95 industry projects for more than 18 trillion Uzbek soums will be implemented. $1.8 billion of foreign direct investment will be disbursed which will create 26 thousand permanent jobs.
In particular, the energy sector is scheduled to implement 8 large projects for $974 million and introduce generating capacity for 6 billion kilowatt-hours per year, which will save 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas. Besides, due to $100 million of investments by the French company «Total Eren», a solar photovoltaic station with a capacity of 100 megawatts will be commissioned in the Nurabad District in December this year.
The President has instructed to introduce a free economic zone regime throughout the territory of the Urgut District, to organize its branches in other areas of the region. It was reported that a holding company will be created on the basis of the Urgut FEZ.
An order was given to break up the intensive orchards and vineyards with a total area of 8 thousand hectares in the Kushrabat, Ishtikhan and Urgut districts, thereby providing employment for more than 4 thousand people. It is indicated the possibility of creating another 4 thousand jobs in the animal husbandry, 12 thousand jobs in the production of silk and products from it.
As it was emphasized noted at the meeting, the main task remains to reduce poverty by critically studying the problems and opportunities in each makhalla (the local community residential area), involving the population in entrepreneurship and self-employment.
It was determined that this year the construction and improvement work will be carried out at 915 villages and makhallas, 3,450 apartment buildings will be built under the mortgage program, and 2,200 families will receive subsidies. It is planned to repair 658 kilometers of potable water supply networks, improve the water supply of 210 villages and makhallas.
In addition, the tasks are set for the development of education and the healthcare, systematic work with young people.
