On April 5, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in our country on a working visit.
The current state and prospects for the development of the Uzbek-Iranian relations in the political, trade and economic, investment, transport, logistics, and other spheres were discussed.
The President was pleased to note the progressive development of the Uzbek-Iranian relations in the challenging conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
In turn, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani.
A special attention during the meeting was paid to the issues of economic cooperation, development of trade relations and promotion of new cooperation projects.
The importance of building up cooperation in the transport and communication sphere, including the effective involvement of the Iranian seaports and the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor, was noted.
The leaders also discussed topical aspects of the international and regional agenda of mutual interest, including the issues of ensuring regional security and advancing the peace process in Afghanistan.
The Iranian Foreign Minister has highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to facilitate the peace talks on Afghanistan and involve this country in regional trade and economic cooperation.
