On March 18, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Chinaz District of the Tashkent Region to learn about the work carried out in the water sector.

It is well-known that due to global climate change, the shortage of water resources is increasing every year. The glaciers in Central Asia have shrunk by about 30% over the past 50 years. The agricultural crops are irrigated mainly by the furrow method. In many areas, the laser leveling has not been carried out. The drainage networks are outdated. As a result, a lot of water is wasted.

At the same time, the population and the demand for agricultural products are growing.

In this regard, the President always emphasizes the necessity of reasonable and efficient use of water, as well as maintaining its accurate records. All these issues are reflected in the Concept for the Development of the Water Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030, approved by the Presidential Decree of July 10, 2020. Following the concept, a three-year strategy for water resources management and development of the irrigation sector was adopted on February 24 this year. The program specifically aims to expand and stimulate the introduction of water-saving technologies by the state and to attract foreign investment into this area.

One of the results of this work was the sown area in the village of Yangiabad, Chinaz District, where 850 hectares of land have been developed thanks to the investments for $ 1 million 350 thousand. Three reservoirs with a total capacity of 202 thousand cubic meters were built and drip irrigation has been introduced.

On 702 hectares of virgin lands will be sown in double rows and the cotton varieties «Andijan-72» will be grown under the film. For this purpose, the modern seeders capable of laying hoses for drip irrigation and covering the seeds with a film were introduced.

The export-oriented gourds will be grown on 148 hectares, the part of which will be provided to the unemployed youth.

«Before planting, you need to think about how to sell headed gourds. The land must be given to an entrepreneur. Since, he knows the market, knows the competition», - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

220 people will be provided with permanent jobs and more than 1.2 thousand people – with seasonal jobs on the acquired lands.
