On March 4, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part at the 14th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which will be held via videoconference.
The Economic Cooperation Organization, which was established in 1985, now is a distinguished regional association. The main goal of this multilateral structure is to promote the cooperation in such priority areas as trade, investment, innovations, transport, communications, energy, agriculture and industry.
Currently, the number of the ECO member states is 10. In addition to Uzbekistan, these are Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan.
The agenda of the upcoming meeting of the leaders of the organization’s member states, which will be chaired by the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, includes the topical issues of practical cooperation in the vast region in the post COVID-19 period.
It is envisaged that the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in his address will present the vision of prospects for the development of regional partnership, as well as put forward a number of proposals for overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, restoring the trade ties, strengthening industrial cooperation, implementing joint programs in the field of transport and logistics, food security, developing the «green economy» and financial cooperation.
