On March 1, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the presentation of investment projects in the Syrdarya region.
This year 737 projects have been developed in the region. Their total cost is 25 trillion 500 billion Uzbek soums, including 900 million dollars of foreign investment. As a result of the projects implementation, it is planned to create production capacities for 11 trillion Uzbek soums per year and almost 36 thousand work places. The new factories are expected to export $ 326 million worth of products and replace imports by $ 124 million. When developing projects, the textile industry, the production of construction materials, the pharmaceutical and food industries were defined as the drivers.
Syrdarya region produces more than 200 thousand tons of cotton. As a consequence of the President’s policy on deepening processing, converting raw materials into value-added products, indicators are growing in this area. In particular, if in 2020 the region obtained 70 percent share of local raw materials in the production of knitted fabric, in the production of clothing - 75 percent, then this year it is planned to bring these indicators to 100 percent.
29 projects that are planned to be implemented in the textile industry will play an important role here. As a result, about 818 billion Uzbek soums will be spent on production facilities, the added value will increase 2,5 times. More than 6,6 thousand work places will be created.
There are 16 projects planned in the construction materials industry. For example, the production of tiles will be launched in city of Yangiyer, aerated bricks in the Saykhunabad district and drywall in the Khavast district. All these enterprises are scheduled to be commissioned this year, providing work places for about 2 thousand people.
In the food industry, it is planned to implement 51 projects involving the processing of fruits and vegetables, the cultivation and export of mung bean, the establishment of a fish-breeding cluster. Thus, the supply of affordable and high-quality products to the market will be developed, which will contribute to price stability. About 3,5 thousand people will be employed.
Nine pharmaceutical projects were recognized as promising. The enterprises to be organized in Gulistan and Syrdarya districts will produce infusion solutions, tablets and medical items.
The head of state paid special attention to the project of establishing an industrial zone «Gujarat» in the Mirzaabad district. As a whole, an agreement on this matter was reached between Uzbekistan and India at the highest level, important for the economy projects are posted. It is planned to organize 8 projects on the production of equipment for drip irrigation and greenhouses, agricultural machinery units, mini-equipment, plastic products, knitted fabric and food products. It will be possible to export goods worth $ 25 million a year.
Currently, 40 hectares of land have been allocated for the industrial zone. It is planned to attract $ 100 million of direct foreign investment for its establishment. The enterprises are scheduled to be commissioned in 2021-2023.
The head of state gave instructions on high quality and timely implementation of projects, increasing the production of import-substituting products. He noted the need to develop logistics and expand partnerships with neighboring states, taking advantage of the proximity of the Syrdarya region to Tashkent and the development of the railway infrastructure.
During the presentation, the efforts to reduce poverty, increase the employment of youth and women were also considered.
