Today, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a telephone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

The sides discussed topical issues on the bilateral agenda and regional cooperation.

President Ashraf Ghani on behalf of the brotherly people of Afghanistan expressed his sincere gratitude to the head of our state for his comprehensive support in ensuring peace and stability on the Afghan land, as well as the economic reconstruction of the country.

The leaders noted with great satisfaction the successful results of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the promotion of the Trans-Afghan Transport Corridor construction project, which was attended by high representatives of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the leading international financial institutions.

The importance of starting the practical implementation of this project was emphasized, including the preparation of technical documentation and construction activities.

The Presidents agreed to join efforts and accelerate the implementation of the project for the construction of a new power transmission line «Surkhan – Pul-e-Khumri». In this regard, a bilateral mechanism will be established to coordinate the implementation of the planned work via video conferences held on a monthly basis.

The possibilities of expanding the Uzbek-Afghan multifaceted cooperation, including in the oil and gas industry, in the field of education and training of qualified Afghan personnel in technical specialties were considered as well.

The participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan in the festive events on the occasion of the 580th anniversary of the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi has been agreed, the event will be held in March this year in the city of Herat.

They also exchanged views on the schedule of upcoming events and contacts at the highest and high levels.

The Presidents instructed to form a joint government group in order to constantly monitor and effectively promote the implementation of the «Road map» and priority investment projects.

The telephone conversation between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan was held in a traditionally open, constructive and friendly atmosphere.
