A special session of the Regional Kengash (Council) of people’s deputies is being held in Ferghana.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is attending the session.

“Before coming here, we did an important analysis. It is easy to come and go. However, the real question is what benefit this will bring to the region’s 4 million population. Therefore, we started preparations a month ago. Yesterday I visited the districts, talked to people. All night long I was deliberating on what the future of Ferghana would be. The economic risks, as well as the danger of coronavirus are still persisting. The world crisis has affected all countries. Finding a market has become an acute question. Hence, we need to create new «growth points» and fully exploit the potential”, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

An organizational issue was discussed at the session. The Head of the state nominated Khayrullo Bozorov, the acting Region’s Khokim (governor), since September 2020, for the post of Khokim of the Ferghana Region.

Kh.Bozorov embarked upon his career as a tax inspector in 1995. From 2007 to 2015, he served as Deputy of Khokim of the Namangan Region for social and economic issues, Khokim of the Uchkurgan, Chust and Mingbulak districts. In 2015-2020, he headed the Namangan Region. Last year he was awarded the title of Honored Economist of Uzbekistan.

“I know Khayrullo Bozorov for many years. He was Khokim in three districts in the region. He is a very experienced, modern-minded, caring for the people, modest person. During the four months when he was an acting khokim, you have also managed to test him. Ferghana needs such an educated and experienced person”, - the President said.

People’s deputies, representatives of the older generation and the youth spoke in support of the candidate. According to the results of the voting, Khayrullo Bozorov was appointed as the Khokim of the Fergana region.

The President also referred to the work of the district officials, as well as the local problems.

“If a leader is modest, sincere, is not impudent, if he is interested in people’s problems, eases their worries, the respect for him will grow. One can’t establish credibility just by sitting at the offices and riding a car. The fact that the leaders of the lower, district level do not take responsibility worries me most of all. If we use all the available opportunities correctly, unite the asset, many issues can be resolved in the district itself and the makhalla. The Khokim should not lead a carefree life. He should devote himself entirely to a work”, - the President said.

It was also noted at the session that the khokims of the Kuva, Uzbekistan and Yazyavan districts, as well as the heads of several sectors, were dismissed for improper performance of their duties.

Currently, the President is speaking on the tasks of the socio-economic development of the region, improving the living conditions of the population at makhallas (local neighborhood community areas).
