On January 11, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the elected President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov.

The head of our state sincerely congratulated Sadyr Zhaparov on his convincing victory in the presidential elections, as well as the successful organization of a referendum on amendments to the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan.

Confidence was expressed that the results of those vital political events would lay a solid foundation for enduring stability in the country, improved wellbeing of the population and sustainable development.

In his turn, Sadyr Zhaparov expressed gratitude to the President and the multiethnic people of Uzbekistan for the assistance provided to the fraternal Kyrgyzstan in overcoming the consequences of contemporary challenges and combating the coronavirus pandemic.

Topical issues on the bilateral agenda and regional interaction were considered during the phone talk.

This year should, it was stressed, become a period of consolidation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations of friendship, good-neighborliness, trust and strategic partnership, filled with qualitatively new substance.

The importance of practical implementation of previously reached agreements on the enhancement of the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan was noted in particular.

It envisages primarily the effectiveness of joint work on the delimitation of the state border, growth in trade and industry cooperation, intensification of interaction in energy and agriculture, expansion of contacts among regions of our two countries as well as humanitarian exchanges, practical implementation of province-based projects for the development of effective transport communications and other issues.

The sides reached agreement on stepping up the activities of intergovernmental commissions as well as holding a number of joint events in key areas of cooperation.

Shared interest was expressed in continuing a close and constructive dialogue, mutual support within the framework of international organizations and regional institutions.

The conversation took place in an open and friendly spirit.
