On December 31, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.
The heads of state exchanged warm congratulations on the upcoming new year 2021, sincerely wishing our two fraternal peoples peace, wellbeing and prosperity.
The sides noted that amid the complex conditions of the pandemic and its negative impact on the world economy, Uzbekistan and Turkey have been able to ensure progressive development of the mutually advantageous cooperation and multifaceted partnership.
Special gratitude was expressed to Turkish partners for the support and practical assistance provided in combating the pandemic.
The Presidents also noted with satisfaction the results of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. The turnover indicators and transport links have been retained, about 300 new enterprises were created within the year with the participation of Turkish investors. The leading companies of the two countries are implementing major projects in energy, urban planning, infrastructure modernization, agriculture and other sectors of the economy.
To support ongoing institutional reforms in Uzbekistan, qualified experts and consultants from Turkey were invited to priority areas.
The program of cultural and humanitarian exchange has been expanding.
The heads of state called for the effective use of the available potential of bilateral relations and for the development of full-scale cooperation.
Importance of the soonest agreement on preferential trade was emphasized, which would allow for bringing the turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey to $ 5 billion in the coming years.
The parties also exchanged views on topical issues in the international and regional agenda. They considered the schedule of bilateral and multilateral events in 2021, identified priority measures for their thorough preparation.
The telephone conversation between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkey took place in a traditionally confidential, open and friendly spirit.
