Topical socio-economic issues have been discussed at a President-chaired session with public figures and activists of Khorezm region. Building on the available opportunities in each town, district and mahalla, growth points of the region were identified.
In particular, it was indicated that there are prospects for the advancement of textile production and tourism in the city of Urgench, tourism and the construction materials industry in the city of Khiva, textile production and greenhouse facilities in Gurlan district, greenhouses and processing of fruits and vegetables in Yangibazar district, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in Tuprakkala district. For the effective realization of projects in these areas, heads of ministries and banks are assigned to each district. The implementation of all projects is expected to facilitate the creation of more than 16 thousand jobs.
In 2021, loan resources for 500 billion soums will be channeled to the promotion of family entrepreneurship, employment of youth and women in the Khorezm region.
One of the economic drivers in Khorezm is tourism. Given this, the President stressed the importance of increasing the number of rooms in hotels, organizing regular and charter flights to Urgench from abroad. In order to encourage domestic tourism, instructions were given to improve transport services, in particular, to establish air and rail links with the Ferghana Valley, to apply a 30 percent discount on tickets in the initial period. In the future, this experience will be applied in Termez, Samarkand and Bukhara.
It is planned to build a 413-meter bridge across the Amudarya River, to connect Khorezm with Karakalpakstan, as well as a 79-kilometer railway from the Shavat district of Khorezm to Karakalpakstan’s Karauzyak district. In the next three years, a total of 2,370 kilometers of internal roads will be repaired.
Particular attention was paid to social issues. Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to build 100 apartment blocks with 2 thousand flats next year and improve drinking water supply in all districts of the region.
Practical steps for the development of education and healthcare systems and cultural sphere have been agreed on.
At the meeting, the President has had a separate talk with representatives of local youth. After attending to each proposal, the head of state gave appropriate instructions to officials in charge.
“We live in difficult times, in difficult conditions. In such circumstances, every district, every mahalla has its own standing and objectives of its own. Khorezm should set high goals for itself,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted.
