Accompanied by representatives of state and public organizations as well as labor veterans, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been on tour around Tashkent to get a first-hand view of the creative work in progress in the city. New transport infrastructure facilities, roads and enterprises are among the destinations.
The first stop was the Yunusabad metro line. The head of state traveled by train from the Bodomzor station to the new Turkiston station.
“This line will afford new speed to everything: transportation, economy, our life,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested.
The construction of the extension of this metro line began in accordance with the 7 November 2016 presidential decree. Shavkat Mirziyoyev came here several times and got acquainted with progress of the works.
Within the framework of the project worth $ 103.8 million, a total of 3 kilometers of tracks have been laid and the Yunusobod and Turkiston stations were built.
“It was not easy to build this road,” the President said. “We drew funds, invited specialists from abroad and worked out the project in detail. The construction took two years. Crucially, it is an inexpensive, safe and convenient type of transport.
Specialists briefed the President on the construction process and technologies used. The 850-meter section of the line passed through an area saturated with groundwater, which in the past was considered impossible to overcome. In the novel project, German technology was applied, thanks to which the aquifer was overcome using reinforced concrete tubing.
It should also be noted that in the past, the profitability of the Yunusabad underground line was low due to diminutive workload. Today, more than 340 thousand people live in the Yunusabad district. The extension of the subway line and the construction of new stations have created great convenience for commuters and guests.
The metro is of great economic and environmental importance. In particular, the two new stations will serve 7.5 thousand passengers a day. As a result, bus routes are optimized and road congestion reduced. Emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere will be cut by 5.3 thousand tons per year.
In general, the Tashkent metro serves 240 thousand passengers a day. The construction of three new lines 21 kilometers long – Yunusabad, Sergeli and Kuiluk – is expected to cover more than 150 thousand people in addition.
