President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has chaired a meeting in Namangan with hokims of the region and districts, chief executives of spheres and industries, and representatives of the wider public.
The meeting participants thoroughly analyzed the work underway in the province towards reducing poverty, employing graduates of educational institutions, boosting the incomes of the population. Urgent tasks have been defined.
Today, identifying and bolstering the region’s growth points and thereby increasing the wellbeing of the population is the critical prerequisite for ongoing economic reforms. The President paid special attention to the work that should be undertaken in the region on this front.
In particular, industry, small and medium-sized businesses, handicrafts, and services can act as drivers for economic development and revenue growth in the province. Namangan has gained extensive experience in these areas. Accordingly, officials were instructed to provide employment for more than 12 thousand members of low-income families through the development of entrepreneurship, to bring these families out of poverty before the end of the year.
In particular, 2 thousand people will return to work after the resumption of the activities of 600 entrepreneurs in trade and services.
The head of state announced that a program for the development of services sector in the context of districts and towns is being devised for the region, and that 80 billion soums is to be allocated for these projects.
In addition, another 100 billion soums will be assigned for these purposes. 2.3 trillion soums will be directed to providing working capital to entrepreneurs whose revenue decreased due to the pandemic lockdown, while 350 billion soums will be channeled this year for the promotion of family business.
Tasks have been set for fueling the jewelry industry in the region, establishing a modern jewelry center in Namangan, which is anticipated to help create 4 thousand jobs within two years and where the unemployed youth would master the jewelry craft in the traditional mechanism “mentor-disciple”.
In 2020-2021, measures will be taken for the comprehensive development of the Chartak district, the development of 3,000 hectares of unused land with the cultivation of crops suitable for local soil and climatic conditions.
In Namangan region, a total of 1,953 projects worth 16.3 trillion soums are expected to be implemented, with the creation of 55 thousand jobs. In particular, this year it is planned to carry out 1,652 projects worth 8.3 trillion soums and create thus 35 thousand workplaces.
Celebrated European clothing brands have been having increasing interest in Namangan outfits. Therefore, large textile enterprises have been allocated land, and transition is made to the deep processing of cotton and the production of finished goods.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that cotton-textile clusters should value this attention of foreign brands, work accordingly and surge incomes and provide people with jobs.
It is planned to realize promising projects in the province in rabbit breeding, beekeeping, animal husbandry and poultry farming. In particular, greenhouses are to be built in 4,806 households in Namangan district, 84 livestock-related projects worth 386 billion soums to be spearheaded by the end of the year.
Thus, 13 thousand heads of pedigree cattle and as many those of sheep and goats of wool breed will be imported and distributed among households in Pap and Chust districts. New capacities will be launched for processing 10 thousand tons of milk and a thousand tons of meat a year.
The meeting helped identify critical tasks in housing and infrastructure construction, drinking water supply, education and culture development, fundraising from international financial institutions, enhancement of investment projects for the construction of new enterprises and upsurge in exports.
The population of Namangan region has naturally been growing. This increases the burden on the socio-economic infrastructure, complicates the management of the province. To this end, the President proposed to restore the once forsaken Davlatabad district as part of the city of Namangan.
“The hardworking, energetic, accomplished people of Namangan deserve a prosperous life. The state will cash in all of the available opportunities and potential to ensure that,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded.
