Top-level negotiations were designated as the first event in the program of visit by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation.

The head of our state was welcomed tonight by President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed issues pertinent to the further consolidation of the relations of strategic partnership and multilayered cooperation.

It is worth noting that the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Russia had earlier been scheduled for these very days. But the coronavirus pandemic changed plans, and the event was postponed to a later date.

The head of the Russian state thanked Shavkat Mirziyoyev for accepting the invitation to participate in the celebrations of the Great Victory.

“This is a very visible sign of our special allied relations,” Vladimir Putin suggested while speaking about the forthcoming participation of servicemen of our Armed Forces in the parade due June 24 on the Red Square, for the first time in the history of independent Uzbekistan.

The President of Russia also paid special tribute to the immense contribution of our people to the Victory, the efforts in the rear, the munificence of our population to the evacuated. The host of the talks expressed appreciation of the Victory Park established recently in Tashkent.

In turn, the head of our state congratulated Vladimir Putin and the entire Russian people on the great holiday. “This is our common history, common victory,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed. He expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the willingness to provide archival materials to enrich the fund of the Memorial Complex in the Victory Park in Tashkent as well as to establish more reliable statistics on the contribution of the people of Uzbekistan to triumph in the Second World War.

The parties noted with deep satisfaction the dynamic development of bilateral ties in recent years.

The negative impact of the global crisis notwithstanding, trade is showing steady growth. Thus, last year it reached 6.6 billion dollars. In the first months of this year, the turnover amounted to about $ 2 billion.

The leading companies of our countries have been enhancing cooperation: currently, 2 thousand joint ventures and new investment projects worth over $ 12 billion are in progress, covering all major sectors of the economy.

Overall, Russian investments in the Uzbek economy have exceeded $ 10 billion.

Another priority area is the intensive scientific and educational exchange underway. Over the past few years, ten leading Russian higher education institutions have opened their branches in Uzbekistan. Four other Russian universities have been considering similar moves.

Examples of mutually advantageous and effective cooperation are abundant.

They cover not only trade, investments, transport and education, but also agriculture, science and innovation, healthcare, culture, tourism and other important areas.

The heads of state examined in detail the current issues in the Uzbek-Russian relations.

They emphasized the importance of continuing the dynamic dialogue and ensuring the practical implementation of the agreements within the framework of the Joint Commission at the level of prime ministers and Intergovernmental Commission.

The governments of the two countries were instructed to continue with thorough preparations for the forthcoming summit meeting, focusing on new economy-oriented programs and breakthrough investment projects.

The leaders also exchanged views on international and regional issues. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin in particular deliberated on the schedule of summit meetings, including those of the CIS and SCO.

Tomorrow, the head of our state is expected to attend the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism.
