Today, on May 6, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov.
The heads of state discussed the current state and prospects of the Uzbek-Turkmen multifaceted relations built on the principles of strategic partnership.
The Presidents emphasized that historically the fates of the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples have a lot in common, including the ancient history, traditions and customs. Connecting us today from time immemorial, friendship and brotherhood, good-neighborly relations have now entered a new, historic stage of their development.
The two leaders noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics in practical interaction and productive interagency contacts in trade, energy, transport and transit, industry and agriculture.
Agreement was reached to continue with active joint work with the aim of promoting priority cooperation projects, including in the framework of the activities of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission.
The telephone conversation served to discuss issues related to the elimination of consequences of the emergency in Sardoba reservoir.
The heads of state also exchanged views on the epidemiological situation in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection.
Full-fledged mutual support was expressed for measures being taken in the two fraternal countries to counter the dangerous disease as well as to sustain the national economy and population during this difficult period.
The presidents instructed the relevant ministries and departments to strengthen coordination and interaction in organizing an effective fight against the pandemic.
The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also considered a number of pressing issues of international politics and regional cooperation.
The conversation was held in a traditionally warm, open and friendly atmosphere.
