President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is holding a meeting in Urgench with hokims of the Khorezm region and districts, members of local representative councils, heads of public and social organizations, entrepreneurs and intellectuals.

“We contemplate reforms in order to improve the lives of our people, on the basis of dialogue, in consultation with people. I have come to Khorezm to talk about problems bothering the locals. Therefore, it will be more productive if you raise questions. We’ve found ourselves in the condition where we are now due to lies, because of the tradition of speaking pompous words. To deceive the President means treason,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested.

The head of our state pointed to the slow pace of development in the region. The volume of gross regional product per capita is 1.5 times lower than the national average, while the volume of industrial production and the provision of services is half that norm. 58 thousand families in the region are in low financial standing, of which 856 live below the poverty line. Many went abroad to work. All this requires the creation of 200 thousand jobs in Khorezm.

The President stressed that the key goal is to engage people in entrepreneurship, create new enterprises and jobs, and hence secure sharp reduction in poverty.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored the need for accelerated development of entrepreneurship in urban and rural areas, for the transformation of banks into “factories of business projects”. Instructions were given on organizing production and service facilities on the basis of 2.5 thousand empty buildings, on implementing new projects in the Hazorasp Free Economic Zone.

The President also slammed the state of the provision of services in rural areas. As he noted, the volume of services in villages is 10-14 times less than in the city of Urgench; thus it is crucial to significantly increase the number of such facilities.
