President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has visited the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources, where he met with scientists, young researchers, heads of research institutions and representatives of the manufacturing sector.
Special attention in Uzbekistan is paid to the development of science, and the emphasis is to be strengthened this year in accordance with the title assigned to it. The projected efforts include addressing urgent issues in the sphere in need of solution and enhancing support for research activities. In particular, new institutions and directions will be organized.
On 29 October 2019, the President signed the bill “On Science and Scientific Activities” into law. To create a practical platform for implementing the act, the National Council on Science and Technology was set up.
The number of research institutions of the Academy of Sciences has grown from 20 to 35. The system of elections to the Academy has been resumed. The Ministry of Innovation Development was established, a number of innovation centers, scientific clusters and technology parks has been launched.
Over the past three years, funding for science has quadrupled. The size of salaries of scientists has been tripled; separate allowances have been introduced for doctors and candidates of sciences.
Starting from this year, organizations in the Academy of Sciences system are funded directly from the national budget.
The head of state noted at the meeting that the material and moral support for scientists will be steadily continued.
“Now our scientists, deeply aware of their responsibility, should make a proper contribution to the development of relevant areas with their research and practical results from them. Both reputable academics and young people taking their first steps in science are urged to be highly active and effective in reality,” the President said.
The meeting is taking place as an open dialogue to deliberate on the prospects of mathematics, chemical and biological science, and geology, and determine development priorities in these areas.
