President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with representatives of the younger generation at the Muhammad al-Khorezmi school in Tashkent.
In recent years, the normative foundations of youth policy have been consolidated, and the Republican Inter-Agency Council for Youth Affairs has been formed. The Youth Union of Uzbekistan was set up; June 30 was declared Youth Day. Currently, the association has 7 million 690 thousand members.
8 deputy hokims have been appointed thus far from among the younger generation. In the recent elections to the Legislative Chamber, 9 young men and women were elected, and almost 10 percent of the newly elected deputies of local kengashes are youngsters.
“Among the younger generation I believe there are educated, courageous young men and women with shining eyes, willing to tell me “You can rely on me!" The most correct way of leadership, the ability to lead is a personal example,” the President said.
The meeting served to discuss problems in the life of youth, pressing challenges, urgent tasks.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that there is no effective mechanism in our country for the selection of senior personnel from among young professionals and their placement in areas catering to their abilities.
Speaking about threats and ideological risks in the context of globalization, the President quoted the words of our ancestor, the outstanding enlightener Fitrat: “This world is a battlefield. The weapons in it are a healthy body, a sharp mind and high moral qualities.”
Heads of relevant government agencies were given instructions on the prevention of delinquency and crime among youths, and of family divorces.
Plans were identified for the implementation of each track of the President’s Five Initiatives in urban and rural areas.
Last year, Uzbekistan successfully held the International Muhammad al-Khorezmi Olympiad of Young Mathematicians. The head of state proposed to organize, on the basis of this experience, international Olympiads in physics after Ahmad Fergani, in chemistry – after Abu Raihan Beruni, biology – after Abu Ali ibn Sino, and astronomy – after Mirzo Ulugbek.
The meeting participants supported the initiative to organize the Agency for Youth Affairs on the basis of the Youth Union.
The President also proposed to organize a Youth Media Holding by combining specialized television and radio channels, and print media.
“We will build the new Uzbekistan with the youth. The year 2020 will be a turning point in youth policy,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced.
At a meeting held in the form of an open dialogue, the participants voiced their perspectives. The head of state gave instructions to responsible officials on each proposal expressed.
Representatives of youth in every region of the country watched the meeting through video conferencing.
