Today, December 23, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Sergey Lebedev, Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States, leading the Observer Mission from the CIS at the elections to representative bodies of government in our country.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, warmly welcoming the guest, noted the active work of the CIS Mission during the preparation and conduct of the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and to local kengashes (councils).
Sergey Lebedev expressed sincere gratitude for the invitation to take part in the election observation and the favorable conditions delivered for the fruitful operation of the CIS Mission, which included over 180 representatives of member states and the Commonwealth Executive Committee.
The election process, it was emphasized, has been organized at a high level and been conducted in full accordance with national legislation and international standards.
The CIS Executive Secretary noted that the elections were held on a multi-party basis, were free, transparent, competitive, and became a significant factor in the enhancement of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Sergey Lebedev exchanged perspectives on the prospects of multilateral cooperation between our country and Commonwealth nations. Particular attention was paid to the effective organization of Uzbekistan’s presidency in the CIS in 2020.
