President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has visited the Center for Islamic Civilization under construction in Tashkent.
Established at the initiative of the head of our state, the complex is envisioned to embody the immense heritage of our nation, its enormous contribution to the development of science and education.
“Everyone’s past is dear to them. We have a rich history, outstanding scientists among our ancestors. We must deeply study this legacy, expose it to the people, to the world. We must make sure that a person visiting this center receives a complete picture of our history, and gets spiritually enriched,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev had said during one of his previous trips to this complex.
These goals are considered chief criteria when erecting and establishing the center. On an area of almost two hectares, a magnificent three-story building has been constructed. Portals 34 meters high each were erected on four sides of the building. A grand oriental-style dome will be installed on the symmetrical heart of the building.
In accordance with the 23 June 2017 decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a scientific and historical concept was developed to explore our country’s centuries-old integrity with world civilization and status as one of the centers of Islamic culture.
On the ground floor of the building there will be a museum warehouse, rooms for storage and restoration of ancient manuscripts and objects, a printing house and bookstores.
The second floor is to house a huge foyer with Usman Koran in the center. It will also have the Museum of Islamic Art and a 435-seat conference hall. Thematic expositions of historical sources and exhibits will be organized for each period and outstanding personalities in the history of Uzbekistan.
A library with a stock of up to 100 thousand manuscripts, an information and resource center, scientific departments and administrative premises are to be located on the third floor.
As the President noted, the Center for Islamic Civilization will become the fundamental basis for academic institutions of this profile. Domestic and foreign specialists will be engaged in scientific research, while encyclopedias, popular science collections will be published on the results of their activities, as well as television shows, films, and other materials will be produced. The complex will come to be a premises for bolstering knowledge of teachers and students of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan.
“This center will serve our people for centuries, and every one of its patterns will become part of history. Therefore, its design and substance should be thought out thoroughly both from the religious and scientific points of view. It is essential to create not only a comfortable environment for acquiring knowledge, but also an atmosphere that would excite human hearts,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev insisted.
The President suggested that an international conference be organized with religious figures, Islamic scholars and historians from around the world to exchange views and develop proposals as to how to perfect the work of the Center for Islamic Civilization.
