Dear friends!
I cordially congratulate you on the 70th anniversary of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex – the flagship company of Uzbekistan’s non-ferrous metalworking industry.
The AMMC history is closely linked with the creation of a completely new industry for our country in the extraction and processing of non-ferrous, rare and precious metals, large production capacities and the modern city of Almalyk. It became a reality owing to the colossal labor of thousands of people who stood at the origins of the plant, as well as those who continue these glorious traditions today by working selflessly, giving all their knowledge, experience and skills and a bit of soul to the noble cause.
The construction of the plant laid the foundation for the eventual extensive exploration and utilization of the mineral wealth of our land, strategically important for the national economy.
Today, when Uzbekistan is at a new stage of development, we attach priority to enhancing our industrial and economic potential.
Signed last year, the presidential resolution envisaging measures for the reconstruction and stabilization of production capacities of JSC Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex created new opportunities in this regard.
What deserves the highest praise is that the multiethnic team of this titanic enterprise have been active in furthering the comprehensive reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years, the cardinal renewal and modernization of the national economy and the country as a whole.
That the high quality of Uzbek precious and non-ferrous metals is acknowledged today worldwide, and that our country’s economic power has been growing, owes greatly to the 35,000-strong team of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, itself a locomotive of our economy.
In cooperation with leading foreign companies, building on cutting-edge technologies, the processing of precious and non-ferrous metal ores mined in the deposits of Tashkent, Jizzakh, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions is carried out at an accelerated pace, production volumes of a wide range of popular products have been increasing, more than 70 percent of which is exported.
To boost efficiency and production in the face of fierce competition in the global market, a long-term modernization program has been devised for the plant.
Major investment projects are spearheaded to swell production volumes and come up with new types of goods. Thus, the Angren Pipe Plant in the Angren Free Economic Zone, and the Jizzakh Cement Plant were commissioned. Construction has begun of a copper processing mill, the largest in the CIS space, with a capacity of 60 million tons of ore processing a year as well as other modern factories. Crucially, thousands of new jobs are being created.
In the coming years, as part of the modernization program, the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex plans to develop direct foreign investments, facilitating thus production growth almost 2.5 times by 2023.
A radical renewal of production and the introduction of high technology requires the training of personnel of a new formation. In this regard, much attention is paid to the preparation of modern specialists. The branch of the Tashkent State Technical University and the branch of the Russian National University of Science and Technology “Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys”, opened last year and operating in Almalyk contribute to solving this problem.
One should also note the positive experience of the AMMC in creating decent and favorable living and working conditions for the workers of the plant. Modern residential buildings, cultural and sports facilities, flat roads, places for leisure, in a word, all the necessary infrastructure are being built. A vivid example of such attention and care is the city of Almalyk, which continues to advance, multiplying in comfort and prosperity from one year to another, and adding to attractiveness to foreign guests and investors.
Dear friends!
Today, time itself poses the strategically critical tasks for the staff of the plant, as well as for all our people, to further enhance the competitiveness of the national economy.
We have to address such extremely urgent issues as expanding the production of high-tech and demanded goods with high added value on the basis of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, more effectively cashing in the country’s natural, labor and intellectual resources for these purposes.
I feel convinced that the close-knit, highly professional personnel of the mill, its workers with rich experience and skill, will cope with the fulfillment of these policy tasks with honor.
I sincerely wish you, dear friends, a sound health, happiness and prosperity, new successes in creative work for the good of our native Uzbekistan.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev,
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
