President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has analyzed the current state of the economy of the Surkhandarya region and identified important directions for its development.
The head of our state noted that in addition to the ongoing projects for the region, new investment schemes had been worked out for a total of more than 13 trillion soums, designed for implementation in the next two years.
Over the past nine months, the region’s enterprises exported goods worth $ 125 million, the forecast is 104 percent complete. In order to further increase exports, the President instructed to create a free economic zone in the Termiz Cargo Center logistics hub. This will allow one to establish a visa-free stay in the zone and carry out customs clearance, issuance of a caravan permit and other services for the export, import and transit of goods on a one-stop basis.
The need was indicated for continuing the diversification of agriculture, the allocation of fine-fiber cotton on 40 thousand hectares in the Angor, Kizirik, Muzrabat, Termez and Sherabad districts in 2020. The task is to organize large livestock complexes in clusters based on the available free space.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized the fact that more than 870 thousand pieces of leather are procured in the region a year, but there is not a single enterprise for their processing. The Uzcharmsanoat Association, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and the regional hokimiyat were instructed to organize modern leather and shoe enterprises.
