President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, who arrived in our country to take part in the first session of the Joint Commission chaired by heads of government.
The President of Uzbekistan, warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, noted with deep satisfaction the intensive development and steadfast consolidation of bilateral relations of strategic partnership and alliance.
In turn, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation expressed his gratitude to the head of our state for cordial hospitality and conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
At the conversation it was emphasized that the regular and productive dialogue at the highest level, the joint implementation of agreements reached during the state visit of the Russian President to our country last October contributed to the enhancement of Uzbek-Russian multidimensional cooperation, substantiating it with concrete programs and practical interaction projects.
The intensification of contacts and mutual exchanges was noted during the conversation. Volumes of trade turnover are growing, the “green corridor” has proved effective in supplying agricultural products, and a simplified customs regime has been introduced for textiles’ access to markets.
Within the framework of the bilateral Program of Economic Cooperation at the level of regions and businesses, large investment projects worth over 13 billion US dollars are being spearheaded.
Today, leading Russian companies and banks such as Gazprom, Lukoil, Forus, Tatneft, Power Machines, KamAZ, Eurocement Group, and Gazprombank, Vnesheconombank and many others have been actively operating in Uzbekistan.
Cultural and humanitarian ties are being strengthened. Recently, the 25th anniversary of the Russian Cultural Center was widely celebrated in our country; the Regional Conference of Russian Compatriots and the Fifth International Forum of Graduates of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations were successfully held.
Today’s meeting served to addressed pressing issues in building up the mutually advantageous cooperation and accelerating priority investment projects in various sectors of the economy.
Particular attention was paid to timely and high-quality preparation, jointly with the Rosatom State Corporation, of a strategic project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
The sides underscored the importance of effectively utilizing the potential of the regions of our two countries for a more vigorous promotion of trade relations and production cooperation.
An agreement was reached on enhancing exchanges at the level of regional administrations and business circles.
The ways of shoring up scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation were also discussed. The sides also swapped views on issues in the international agenda.
It was pointed out that the first session of the Joint Commission, due today in Urgench, would be an important stage in the preparation for forthcoming summit meetings and allow the two sides to identify new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
In conclusion, the parties confirmed the shared readiness and aspiration for the comprehensive consolidation of the long-term Uzbek-Russian strategic partnership and alliance relations, for the development of full-scale practical cooperation.
