Extraordinary session of Surkhandarya regional Kengash of people's representatives is in progress in Termez.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to hold the meeting in the format of an open dialogue.

"Those who speak of real state of affairs is a friend of us. May our meeting prove useful in that it allows to address all issues," the head of state suggested.

The President pointed out that even a tenth of Surkhandarya region's potential has not been mobilized despite the province's wealth in mineral resources and its natural conditions allowing to harvest three yields a year. Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the per capita gross regional product is lower 2.3 times of the national average, services volume is half of that indicator, while the manufacturing industry and industrial goods exports lags behind eightfold. The President noted that 10 percent of economically active population is unemployed, and the extent of access to clean drinking water is 54 percent.

To eliminate these and other problems, a program designed for 2019-2020 has been worked out that emvisages the realization of 649 investment projects for 23 trillion and 632 billion soums. Under plans is the development of 2.2 billion dollar direct investments and the creation of 11.5 thousand jobs.

In addition, building on the deep examination of peculiarities and opportunities of Surkhandarya, a concept is under elaboration for the complex development of the region through to 2030.

The head of state defined priority tasks to attract foreign investments into the province, to set up modern enterprises and create new jobs, to boost household incomes and revenues of local budgets.
