President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Murziyoyev got familiar April 30 with the modernization works at the Tupalang Hydropower Station in Surkhandarya region's Sariosiyo district.
Uzbekistan wields great potential for water energy development. Effective use of these opportunities and elevation of power generation capacities have become one of the important directions in the economic development.
he 2 May 2017 presidential resolution approved an action plan to boost the water energy industry in 2017-2021. The 18 May same year decree of the President set up the joint stock company Uzbekgidroenergo. Tasks were defined to realize integrated technical policy in the industry, enhance the development of renewable sources of energy, re-equip the operational and establish new capacities on state-of-the-art technologies.
In accordance with it, also being modrrnized is the Tupalang Hydropower Station. Preciously, two aggregates of 15 megawatt capacity each had worked here. Under the President's directive, the height of Tupalang water reservoir dam has been uplifted by 20 meters. As a result, its capacity grew from 380 million to 500 million cubic meters. Currently, another two aggregates totaling 145 megawatt are being installed at the station.
In addition, minor hydroelectric plants are being erected, Zarchob-1 and Zarchob-2 with 38 megawatt capacity each. Thus, total capacity of power generation will reach 250 megawatt.
Water energy resources are important in that they constitute natural and renewable source of energy. Hydropower stations allow to produce electricity stably without harm to the environment and supply it for the needs of industry and public utilities, agriculture and private consumers.
The head of state got acquainted with the new dam and the hydropower station.
"This is a historic event," Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested. " "This is done in the name of the future, for our children. In the prospect, Surkhandarya will be able, thanks to water energy, to fully cover its economy's needs with electricity."
The President then was reported at the same place on the technical systems for monitoring the state of water reservoirs and their security.
The head of statd gave directives on the consolidation of dams and the constant supervision of their safety, on the elevation of effectiveness in the operation of water reservoirs on the basis of scientific innovation.
