On September 28, the meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States kicked off at Kohi Somon Palace, in Dushanbe.
The meeting is attended by Presidents of Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Russia, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – Executive Secretary.
Heads of states held negotiations in a narrow format.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the event. The Head of the state noted that CIS confirms its relevance of dynamic changes taking place in the world, strengthening global challenges and threats, acting as an important platform for strengthening multifaceted cooperation.
Last year was the beginning of a fundamentally new stage in Uzbekistan’s activities within the CIS. Uzbekistan has joined more than 10 bodies of sectoral cooperation, covering such areas as economy, energy, science and innovation, fight against crime. Since the beginning of 2018, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and CIS countries has been growing rapidly.
Uzbekistan’s initiatives serve to development of cooperation between the CIS countries in trade-economic, transport-communication, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev focused on current and perspective directions of expanding multilateral cooperation.
The President of Uzbekistan confirmed Uzbekistan's readiness to hold the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of States in 2020.
