Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan continued negotiations with participation of official delegations of the two countries.
The main attention was paid to further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
We are pleased with the results in the sphere of trade. In the first quarter of this year, the trade turnover between our countries increased by 55 percent. This is the result of our last year arrangements. Now it is important to preserve and increase this dynamic, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are peace-loving countries, good neighbors. Our countries support each other both in bilateral relations and at the international level. Today’s negotiations have once again confirmed this, said Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
It was noted that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have broad complementary opportunities, involving them, it is necessary to rapidly increase the volume and expand the range of trade turnover. Issues of creating favorable conditions for producers of the two countries, strengthening cooperation of industrial enterprises, and developing interregional relations were discussed. It was noted that there are all the possibilities for bringing the volume of trade to $500 million by 2020.
To achieve these goals, it is necessary to use the maximum potential of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.
Fruitful meetings at various levels have given new dynamic to cooperation between the two countries, filling it with practical content. In March, the National Industrial Exhibition of Uzbekistan was successfully held in Ashgabat. These days Tashkent hosts the National Exhibition of Turkmenistan and a business forum of businesspeople of the two countries.
The sides agreed to develop cooperation in the sphere of transport and transit, thereby increasing the volume of mutual trade and increasing the competitiveness of the two countries in this direction.
Mutually beneficial agreements have been reached on joint production of agricultural machinery, automobiles and electrical engineering, delivery of oil and oil products, expansion of trade between border regions, provision of services and other issues.
