On April 18, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Kang Kyung-wha. This was reported by the Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Warmly welcoming the guest, the Head of the state noted with deep satisfaction the consistent strengthening of centuries-old ties of friendship and the dynamic development of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea
It was emphasized that the historic high-level visit to South Korea in November 2017 and important agreements reached on its results allowed the Uzbek-Korean mutually beneficial cooperation to be brought to a qualitatively new level, filling it with concrete practical content.
Today, the indicators of mutual trade are growing steadily. The volume of Korean investments in the economy of Uzbekistan has exceeded 7 billion dollars. New investment projects worth more than $5 billion are being worked out, including with companies such as Posco Daewoo, GS, Evergreen, Yang Guang and many others.
In February this year, Tashkent hosted the first joint intergovernmental meeting in a new format on the issues of trade and economic cooperation.
Joint programs aimed at introduction of advanced South Korean experience, knowledge and technologies in development of the healthcare system, preschool education, urban management, energy and other sectors of the economy and social sphere are being actively implemented.
Leading experts from the Republic of Korea are involved as consultants by ministries, departments and khokimiyats of Uzbekistan. Humanitarian, educational and tourist exchanges are expanding.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on prospects for further deepening the multifaceted cooperation between the two states, as well as current issues of international and regional policy.
It was emphasized that the Republic of Uzbekistan fully supports the policy implemented by the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, on ensuring peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in the region.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed his confidence that the planned meetings at the highest level will become important events in Uzbek-Korean relations and will ensure achievement of new breakthrough agreements.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed deep gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes on behalf of the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in.
The Korean side highly appreciated the results of the International Conference on Afghanistan, which was held on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in Tashkent, in March this year, which will undoubtedly make an important contribution to ensuring stability and security in the region.
The Minister also expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the decision adopted on introducing a visa-free regime for South Korean citizens, which contributed to a significant increase in the tourist flow and expansion of business contacts.
Following the meeting, Kang Kyung-wha reaffirmed the readiness of the South Korean side to further strengthening the bilateral relations of strategic partnership and full-scale cooperation.
